The full circuit up and over Loder Peak is about 10km with 750m of elevation gain, however there are alternate routes that we may follow depending on the preference of the group.

• Water shoes - we will be walking along a creek!
• Hiking boots (for the non-creek parts)
• Clothing that can provide protection in the event of cold or wet weather; as well as a hat for protection from the sun
• Hiking poles may be useful for the ascent
• Lunch as well as snacks, energy bars, water, etc. for the trail
• Sunscreen and bug repellent

Jura Creek, just east of Canmore, is in the beautiful South Ghost region. This will be an interesting hike that picks its way up a narrow canyon, past cascading pools and squeezing in between fascinating rock formations. Originally thought to be Jurassic outcrops (hence the name), these late Devonian/ early Cretaceous shales are beloved of geologists, and known to hold fossils of huge extinct armoured fish.

The South Ghost region has long been an area of concern for Alberta Wilderness Association.
