This is a challenging hike mainly because of the approximately 850 m elevation gain, but the distance covered is about 10 km. There are some very steep sections with loose scree (gravel) on rock. And close to the top is a short narrow-ish exposed ridge. The climb takes about 4 hours going up for the average hiker. Coming down is much faster.
We will observe COVID-19 precautions and guidance from the Government of Alberta and expect
participants to follow appropriate sanitizing and social distancing. We thank you for your understanding
and cooperation! If you need more details you can check the Government website at:
this link.
Please bring a personal mask and your own hand sanitizer.
Thank you for joining us for this exceptional day out in one of Alberta’s truly wonderful Wild Spaces
— we look forward to meeting you there!
Access to the trailhead is via the Transalta Road which is 16 km of poor gravel, and then about 3 km on a rough track in the valley bottom which requires high clearance 4×4 vehicles. We’d try to arrange carpooling based on the availability of suitable cars. After an ‘interesting’ approach to the trailhead, the trail winds through a (recently burned) forest, then out in the open through steep scree and rock, up a gulley then over alpine meadows to another scree slope to the ridge leading to the peak.
Directions to the meeting point will be sent to registered participants a few days in advance of this Adventure.
