We will begin at our meeting spot at 1030 in the morning and explore for about 2 hours, documenting what we find with photos and notes. This will be an easy ramble with some uphill; everyone is welcome to join at their own pace.
Proper clothing and footwear for the weather, layers will be great on this day in March.
We will observe COVID-19 precautions and guidance from the Government of Alberta and expect
participants to follow appropriate sanitizing and social distancing. We thank you for your understanding
and cooperation! If you need more details you can check the Government website at:
this link.
Please bring a personal mask and your own hand sanitizer.
Thank you for joining us for this exceptional day out in one of Alberta’s truly wonderful Wild Spaces
— we look forward to meeting you there!
Botanist Karel Bergman, senior geologist Tako Koning and I hope you will join us in a crocus bud hunt, at Nose Hill Park. We will find the sunny sides of the hills and see how many crocus buds we can find. There are sure to be other signs of spring for us to enjoy as well. With Karel’s help, even the plants that are still dormant will be interesting as we ramble our way across the hills. With Tako’s help we will learn more about glaciations, rock striations, and the various fossils that might be found.
There is no doubt you will find fresh air, glimmers of spring starting to awaken from winter and a sense of peace that the hills and time in nature can bring. Closer to the date, I will send you details of where we will meet on Thursday March 24th at 10:30 am.
Please plan to send me a photo of your crocus buds or perhaps blossoms depending on what you find and it would be wonderful to have a short paragraph story of your day out on this adventure.
We will make a collage of all the photos received and compilation of the stories for others to enjoy.
Our ramble on the hills will give us a chance to enjoy Nose Hill Park and the features there that make this such an important urban park.
There is no set fee to join this Adventure, however, a donation to AWA in memory of Margaret Main, one of AWA’s Great Grey Owl Award Winners, or Gus Yaki, 2014 Wilderness Defender Award winner, would be appreciated. Sponsorships are also greatly appreciated! Thank you!
