This is a moderately difficult hike, raising and falling about 200 m in elevation, with some steep sections when coming out of the valley. The total length is about 15 km.
We will observe COVID-19 precautions and guidance from the Government of Alberta and expect
participants to follow appropriate sanitizing and social distancing. We thank you for your understanding
and cooperation! If you need more details you can check the Government website at:
this link.
Please bring a personal mask and your own hand sanitizer.
Thank you for joining us for this exceptional day out in one of Alberta’s truly wonderful Wild Spaces
— we look forward to meeting you there!
This loop hike leads down along the slopes into the deep valley of the North Ghost River, crossing many small springs and streams, then carries on along the valley bottom and climbs back up to the trailhead. The terrain and vegetation vary greatly and there are great views along the way.
The trailhead is about 8 km up Transalta Road which is a rather poor-quality gravel road. We will try to help arrange carpooling from the meeting point, depending on the availability of suitable sturdy vehicles. Crossing of small streams will be required. The hike starts at the top of the escarpment and leads all the way down to the valley bottom along the river and then back up on a different route.
